The AJO ensemble is pianist James Clapperton, flautist Elisabeth Kristensen Eide, cellist Kristin Alsos Strand, and percussionist Jennifer Torrence. AJO was founded in 2011 with a debut performance at the Sound Ways Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Our core repertoire stems from our international and cross-art collaboration series, The Counterpoint Project. In 2013, we collaborated with the Pro Arte Foundation (St. Petersburg) to create The Counterpoint Project: Russia, an evening length work from Norwegian composer Arnt Haakon Aanesen and Russian composer Sergej Newski. In May 2013, AJO toured the work to ten cities within Northern Norway and Northwest Russia, including a performance at Platforma in Moscow. The Counterpoint Project: Russia featured musicians Silje Marie Aker Johnsen, Sergej Tchirkov, and Natalia Pschenitschnikova.
In May 2014 we premiered The Counterpoint Project, Iceland, featuring a new work by Hilmar Thordarsson and Haraldur Karlsson along sid Stockhausen's Kontakte. The tour included performances in Stockholm, Bodø and an appearance at the Rafløst Festival, Iceland.
In November 2017 we premiered The Counterpoint Project, Italy, featuring new works by James Clapperton and Diego Minciacchi.
